Love Will Hold Us Together

Read Ephesians 2:10
You can learn a lot from the story of Humpty Dumpty. One of the most important lessons to learn from that story is that just like Humpty Dumpty, humanity had a great fall. Although the popular nursery rhyme focuses one person’s fall, when you look at it from a wider scope, you get to understand that everyone is essentially broken. There are many broken bodies, broken lives, and broken relationships all on the quest to find someone or something to put them back together again.
But unlike all the king’s horses and all the king’s men, there is only one King who can put you back together again. You can come to Jesus broken into so many tiny pieces but His love and presence are so strong that after a while you forgot how broken you were in the first place. Christ’s love is the super glue. He takes broken things and puts them back together, and every piece portrays His glory.
The King can put you back together. Not only will He put you back together, but He will hold you together. God’s love will hold us together.
A SHELTER TO WEATHER THE STORM
There is no problem too hard for God to handle. Jeremiah 32:27 says, “Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh. Is anything too hard for me?” God wants to make you a shelter in the form of His presence to weather any storm. He knows that troubles will arise, but He always wants you to know that He has you covered.
When someone says, “I got you”, it means that they are looking out for you and protecting you. That is exactly what God wants to do for you. He wants to protect you from the storms of life and prevent anyone from harming you. You are His masterpiece and He will do everything possible to protect you.
The winds may blow and the storms of life may come at you, but God’s love will hold you together no matter how rough things get.
YOU ARE A MASTERPIECE
Think about a time that your favorite mug or vase broke. It meant so much to you that you could not even think about getting rid of it because in your eyes you found it to be so wonderful. You just had to find a way to fix it but in such a way that no one or even you could not tell that it was broken in the first place. You considered that mug or vase a masterpiece because it was so unique and precious in your eyes.
When someone sees a masterpiece, it catches their eye. When God sees you, you have His attention. He doesn’t notice any scars or brokenness–He only sees a wonderful work of art. Ephesians 2:10 reminds us of this. The verse says, “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
HE PUT YOU BACK TOGETHER
How did Jesus put you and me back together? He became like you and me. He became broken so you could be made whole. He took your brokenness upon Himself so you could be made whole. 2 Corinthians 5:21 says, “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
This is what He did for you. It cost Him more than any amount of money you could possibly think about to put you back together. There was only one Person precious enough to remake you. 1 Peter 1:18-19 says, “Knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.” He put you back together with His blood.
The perfect One died on the cross for you. He holds your cracks together. You don’t have to be ashamed of your cracks or put them away because if you look closely you will see the One who holds them together. It is easy to feel as though you have way too many cracks–whether it be your past addiction, habits, or even past wrongdoings–but He doesn’t look at these things or sees you as others may see you. He sees you as a masterpiece.
He saw all your cracks and He had a closer look than anyone else. He thought these cracks were worth dying for, and that’s exactly why He put you back together.
Think of a puzzle that is missing that one piece. It stands out a lot because you can only focus on that one missing piece compared to multiple missing pieces. Similar to that puzzle, there is a piece that is possibly missing from the center of your life. That missing piece is Jesus.
When He becomes a part of your life, you are complete. The puzzle pieces are no longer scattered and in disarray. Jesus put you back together piece by piece. Just like the finished puzzle, you are now a masterpiece, whose pieces are held together by His love. God’s love is what holds us together.
APPLICATION QUESTIONS
How do you view yourself–as a masterpiece or a million broken pieces that cannot be put back together? If you don’t know what it feels like to be put back together, the King of Kings will put you back together.
Are you trying to hide your broken pieces? Jesus doesn’t need you to put yourself back together before you come to Him. Come as you are and He will take care of the rest.
Are you ready for God to put you back together? He will restore your brokenness. His love will hold you together.
